Tip #1: Check out who is partnering up these days. Many of the engines export information to each other, so there is no need to duplicate your efforts. But than again, you can't be sure until your web site shows up in their directory, that they cataloged you. It's your choice.

Tip #2: It is very handy to have your web site open at the same time so you can copy and paste information into their forms. Open a new naviagator window (file/new/navagitor window), go to your web site, and select view/page source. The source code will be showing and you can copy and paste with ease.

Tip #3: Look for the words "Submit a Site" - on any given page.

Tip #4: Some sites (yahoo especially) require you to find the area that your site will belong in - once you have found that area - then look for the "Submit a Site" or Suggest a Site" link and fill out their form. This does most of the work for them and puts you on a page that you think suits you best.

Tip #5: Sign up in Regional sections - it's a long process but worth it. Start in the region - like United States, then drill down by selecting your area, by state, city and town, then look for your specialty. Example: United States, California, Lake Arrowhead, Real Estate.
